Zelgadis (Slayers - Slayers Next - Slayers Try)

(Just click on the pictures to enlarge them.)

Zelgadis was the very beginning of everything. A friend of mine wanted to have a doll of Zelgadis for such a long time. First of all, he was her favourite character, and besides that, you can see this doll in the anime. We kept on searching for such a doll on conventions, in comic shops, at the internet, but we couldn't find it anywhere. That's why I decided to sew the doll. There was only one problem: I had never ever sewed before. ^^; So, first of all, I asked all of my friends and relatives (except of the one the doll was planned for, of course), if they knew ho to sew a doll and could teach me, but no one did. So I started to read some books about sewing in book shops. Furthermore, I got me some sewing-,crochetting- and knitting-books and magazines from the library and learned crochetting. Finally, I bought a book with sewing descriptions for dolls. The patterns were really good, but I failed to unterstand them and so they didn't bring me any further at all.
Fortunately, my mother found a sewing-course especially for dolls, where I finally learned how to make them. It was really funny: Besides of me, there were only housewives who wanted to sew the dolls for their children.
The teacher was also very surprised by the colour of Zelgadis' skin.
"Could I make the face at home and bring it along the next time?" - "Why?" - "Ehm... I would like to use another skin colour." - "Another skin colour? ... Darker?" - "No. ... ... Blue. ^^;;;" *drop*
After that, the teacher showed my doll to all the women in the course: "It's a very special doll!" (Well, somehow she was right, the doll was a Birthday present for a good friend. ^_^) They thought that the doll looked as if it was choked. -.-
The teacher didn't know how to make hairs with such a strange shape, so I went to all the handwork stores and toy stores I could find to ask the sellers for a proper solution. But in the end, I also succeeded in solving that problem. With my mother's help, I could also sew the clothes and finished Zelgadis just in time - and even found some time to learn for my oral Latin exams. ^^;
