Pictures from Yuki-Con 2006

After we started sewing our own costumes, Chyotto Mahou decided to also visit smaller conventions, so that we could wear our creations more than just once a year. Of course, we couldn't miss the Yuki-Con, which took part in our nearest neighbourhood, in Stuttgart. Such a very small convention can't compete with the AnimagiC in any way, especially the cosplay was rather disappointing - only few people had costumes and almost nobody took pictures. Is it possible that visitors of small conventions are somewhat afraid to ask other people for photos, even if they recognise the character and they really like him? Generally, everybody stayed in the group of his friends, the overall feeling of togetherness, of being one huge family, that we know and love from the AnimagiC, was totally missing.

Anyway, we had lots of fun on the Yuki-Con. There was tasty Japanese food like Okonomiyaki and Onigiri. The playground in front of the hall was great. The shopping possibilities were rather limited, but some last Christmas presents for friends could be found. And the definite highlight were the video games! There was an amazing variety, and the rooms weren't too full, so that we could try every game we wanted. Furthermore, it was simply cool to walk around in the city all dressed up in costumes, with everyone thinking we're totally crazy. Or The last Samurai. Or an actor's group. And this time, it was even a well-known city that we could enter in our costumes. So out of our way, here comes the police!

It's hard to believe, but actually true: We were not the only cosplayers on the Yuki-Con! First and foremost - and second, third, fourth... - there were Naruto cosplayer.

On the playground I've already mentioned, there was a great swing. Fortunately, we're all childish enough to enjoy things like that! ^^

Behind the hall, we discovered a beautiful place for a private little foto session. Even if Yoko as Okita was temporarily more engaged with Saizou, no pig was seriously harmed during that shot.

Dai-chan, who will cosplay Akesato as a Kunoichi* on the next AnimagiC, was walking around with cat ears this time. Anyway, we instantly recognised the Chûshû rebel** in disguise and killed evil instantly. To use the words of two people we met in Stuttgart's subway: "Off with the head!"

* female Ninja
** The rebels, which the Shinsengumi was fighting in Kyôto in the last years of the Tokugawa gouvernment, mainly came from Chôshû. See also the manga description of Peace Maker Kurogane

Just to make that very clear: Tía has NOT cosplayed a Geisha! It was Yamazaki Susumu, who had to disguise himself as a woman for occupational reasons. On this pictures - all top secret, of course! - you can watch him doing his Shinobi* business.

* Shinobi is another word for Ninja

Though the food on the Yuki-Con was really delicious and we also ate there, we still took our own provisions with us: Sushi and Ishida medicine. That's the medicine made by Hijikata's family - and which looked much like star-shaped cinnamon biscuits and vanilla crescents. But hey, we actually made them ourselves!

Even the Shinsengumi needs to have some fun now and then! The countless video games were a perfect occasion to do so.

Finally, we could try out Guitar Hero! Unfortunately, we all couldn't get the song Smoke on the Water out of our heads anymore after that. We still can't Guess we'll never manage to do that. Still, that was worth it. The Shinsengumi rocks!

We had a great success at Dance Revolution. We actually managed to clear a rather difficult song. Yeeha!

But - what's that? The rebel's still alive?

Unfortunately, we didn't remember that cats have nine lives and it's not enough to behead them just once. So the Chôshû cat managed to kidnap Saizou at the Stuttgart main station. There was a wild chase, followed by a swordfight - all very quick and passionate, so that we could only take some blurry photos. Finally, Yue as Hijikata managed to save the pig and kill the rebel once and forever.

After such an exciting weekend, even a Samurai is getting tired. So we're already dreaming of our next convention...
