Thanks to the experiences we've made during the workshop, we were finally able to upload an online version of our sewing instruction. So, if anyone of you has ever wanted to make his own doll - just take a look at it, you won't regret it! ^^
And now, enjoy our photos from Bonenkai 2006! ^_^
The Bonenkai, which took place in Neustadt on January 20 - 22 (and which was mistaken for a carnival party by ignorants -.-), welcomed us once again with a not too big, but really well-stocked sales room and many different cosplayers. ^_^ There was a remarkable amount of Final Fantasy VII AC - cosplayers, and we were happy to discover cosplay from Ghibli's Anime Howl's moving castle. =^.^=

The room where our workshop - How to sew dolls - took part, was incredibly beautiful! Apart from us, there were many different expositions: dolls, kokeshi, kimono... just like the calligraphy- and the kimono-workshop.

Since we had underestimated the time we needed to prepare our workshop, the preparations were much more exhausting than we had expected. We had to sew arms and legs for the dolls in every single night of the week before the workshop, until we could leave for the Bonenkai - bringing lack of sleep, headache and sore throats with us.
We were also worried a bit if we could really manage to teach the participants of our workshop, who had probably never sewn before, in about two or three ours how to sew a doll. We gave three workshops on this weekend: Two on saturday, one on sunday. After we had finished the first dolls, we were seriously exhausted (I'm still wondering how I could manage to hold these lessons with almost no voice, thanks to the cold).
But now we knew the order in wich we had to explain the steps, plus some phrases: "Here you have to sew the arm on the tube, just like you did before" or "You won't see that part later on, so you don't have to sew carefully as long as it's fixed there!" ^^; It was much easier that way!
So, after the Bonenkai, we all agreed: We'd love to do another workshop like this one! ^_^
One of the dolls that were made at our workshop.
Though the workshop took lots of time - there was always one of us who had to get us some food, so that we could eat while we were explaining and working on the dolls -, we also had some free time, which we could use to go shopping or play Go. Yue could even try on a kimono. =^.^=
Oh yeah, the food... the meal on the Bonenkai was amazing - so much Japanese food! Yummie!!
That's what our supper looked like:
Finally, we made a photo session in our hostel. =^.^= It was just so funny that, forced to wear those red helper's T-Shirts, we all ended up being dressed in red and black. ^^
